Frequently Asked Questions

When I log in to the SSRC Online Application Portal (SOAP), there is a  notification that an account is already associated with my email address even though I've never applied before.  What do I do?

If SOAP is notifying you that an account is already associated with your email address, you already have an account in the system.  Please contact nextgenafrica@ssrc.org to get your login information.

I made a mistake on my application but I already submitted it.  How can I  fix it?

We strongly encourage all applicants to thoroughly review their application before submitting to ensure there are no errors.   On a case-by-case basis, the Next Gen Staff will "unsubmit" applications upon request.  Please remember that you are responsible for resubmitting your application once it has been unsubmitted.  Contact nextgenafrica@ssrc.org for more information.

I'm not sure if the topic of my project makes me eligible for this fellowship.  Can I still apply?

Projects have to relate to peace, security, and development, with a focus on peace and security.  You will need to give a compelling argument as to why your dissertation connects to our thematic priorities of peace, security, and development if you wish to apply.

Why has my referee not received an invitation to submit their letter of recommendation?

Referees can not receive invitations for a number of reasons.  We encourage applicants to resend invitations through the application portal (this is true for all applications even those who have already submitted applications) and direct referees to check their Spam folder.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please contact nextgenafrica@ssrc.org.
