Dear Members of the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa community,

It is with heartbreak that I share news about the death of Lindiwe Makhunga. We lost a remarkable friend and colleague who came through this program. She brought joy, intelligence, and impish humor to us all. 

Lindiwe finished the doctoral degree after being a member of our community for two consecutive years. In 2014 she was appointed lecturer in the department of politics at Wits. This is a loss that resonates within our immediate fellowship community and also throughout the scholarly community across Africa. 

I share with you an article that has been circulating that both celebrates her life and mourns our immense loss.
